I’ve been searching for videos to see if it is ok to not have oil holes in the connecting rod/bearings. And then you said oil comes out of the crank shaft and oils the inside of the bearing. And it clicked in my head. Thank you. This video was super helpful
I want to swap the rods and crankshaft in one engine and swap to another block
Can you reuse these bearings agsin?
ive put a over size bearing in a crank that was real wore fixed it
Is the pressure that stops rotation
that motor could have gone another 100 k no problem..
God
good m8
Thank you for this informational video. I’d love to see some more of these kinds of tips and guides on the bottom end of the engine.
Some metal is not indicate STD, but I do see some digit so how can I identify sure metal to be standard?
I hate to break it to you but the tang don't stop the bearing from spinning
You don't hit the rod bearing surface. You use a wooden dowel on the back side of the piston...You never want to hit any part of the rod end....
The tang does absolutely NOT stop a bearing from being spun !!!!!!!!!!! The correct crush does
great video how ever that notch is just a locating tag to hold it in place when installing the bearings after that the torc on the bolts stops it from spinning hence having the correct torc when doing the conrod cap bolts
If you Nick the Crankshaft with the rod bolt run a very small round file parallel with the rotation of the crank until
the nick is gone then polish it, you will have a very small indentation, it will fill up with oil when engine is running and be fine......
hello just picked up a nice 350, And the guy i got from took all the rods out with the pistons. They do do have there caps BUT he didnt number each rod where they go. I am putting new pistons on them and its at machine shop. Does it really matter if not numbered? Thanks
The tang is only for alignment not to keep it from spinning. That is done by the crush. The bearing when installed will stick out alitte on both ends. You must make sure they all stick out the same on both ends and both halves. When you tourqe down the caps it will crush the bearing against the journal.
Bearing lock purpose is only to install bearing in right place it don’t have no purpose of preventing from spinning. It depends of the design of rod. What keep bearing from spinning is clamping force when you tight down both ends of rod. With lock or without lock bearing still can spin and to be technical bearings with lock have more chance to spin coz there is bit less surface where bearings contact (touch) each other when clamped down. I didn’t know about it before as well so please no one get salty. We can learn something new every day!
Great video. Recently my engine gave out and the mechanic said the needed parts where 2 connecting rods, gasket kit, crankshaft and oil pump.
That tab doesnt stop bearing from spinning. Its the bearing crush resulting from torquing the bolts, pushing the bearings pressing against the bore of the connecting rods that stops it from spinning.
