Not that it excuses what she did, but we (as a society) pile on a lot of shame and offer essentially zero support for young pregnant women. When I was a teen (in rural MO) a lot of friends fell pregnant in high school and the amount of shame (especially religious), misinformation (school sex ed was essentially "Just don't have sex, duh"), and a total absence of material support both before and after the birth just wrecked the lives of so many of my peers.

This is a recipe for dumpster deliveries. In this very video you can even see it, when the OBGYN informed her she was 8 months pregnant, they didn't seem of offer any support or even guidance for her obliviousness. They just had her leave without any further support whatsoever? We just don't care about these young women and then act surprised when they fuck up this badly and a child loses it's life. We're quick to want to throw the book at them but fail to see the root cause.

How sad is it that her mom encouraged her to lose weight knowing her daughter had an eating disorder. How messed up in the head do you have to be to encourage that. If her mom had been more understanding that child could possibly be alive right now. Its just sad that she didn't feel like she could tell anyone. I still don't think Skylar should have tried to get rid of her baby her actions are definitely not okay. That fact she got away with this with only a "SLAP"on the wrist makes me so mad and upset. Some people just shouldn't have kids if you can't take care of them properly

Everyone needs to stop for a minute. No one knows if she killed her baby. If she did yes she should suffer but I believe if that is the case that still will be. What if this is the case of a baby that wasn't going to survive and she panicked!!! I mean look how self obsobed her mother is thinking of what people will think before what's happened to her daughter. He mum seams narcissistic, and if that is the case that girl could have been mentally and psychologically surpressed her entire life! The girl was a people pleaser in need of recognition from her mother. She had probbeenbl8ke that her entire life. There is always more to stories, and the truth will out in the end. I believe one way or another justice will find its way if that is the case.

Her mother is narcissistic and skylar her is clearly easily manipulated by her mom, She truly let her daughter take the fall. There is so much more depth behind the scenes of this case

Skylar's mom needs to be slapped, SHE KNEW SKYLAR WAS PREGNANT, STUPID PARENTS, being so concerned with their "perfect image" ,no wonder Skylar made the dumb choice to murder her daughter, Skylar NEVER WANTED THE PREGNANCY, her mom make me sick, Skylar needed to pay for what she did, my guess the father is more sincere in/with his emotions, the detective DIDN'T HAVE TO TELL THEM, THEY ARE GOING TO BE RECORDED,, I HOPE THE SHAME OF MURDERING A BABY WOULD FOLLOW THEM FOR YEARS TO COME

I watched the trial, and the comment section here sickens me. People don't know what they're talking about, and are so quick to judge. The culture she lived in killed her foetus; not her.
